Consideration of a Resolution Requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to Make Changes to the VDOT Inventory of Roadways in Alexandria That Are Eligible for Annual Maintenance Payments From the State's Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB).[ROLL-CALL VOTE]

ISSUE: Consideration of a resolution requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to make changes to the VDOT inventory of roadways in Alexandria that are eligible for annual maintenance payments from the State's Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB).
RECOMMENDATIONS: That City Council:
(1) Adopt the attached resolution requesting VDOT update the list of roadways and lanes in the City that are eligible to receive annual maintenance payments from the State; and
(2) Authorize the City Manager or his designee to forward the resolution to the VDOT.
BACKGROUND: Section 33.2-319 of the Code of Virginia provides that qualifying cities receive payments from the CTB to assist in funding the maintenance of certain roadways. Each quarter, the City receives a payment from VDOT to maintain certain designated roadways in Alexandria through the Urban Maintenance Program. Roadways eligible for a maintenance payment must be classified through the State Functional Classification System as Principal and Minor Arterial Roads or Collector Roads and Local Streets. Payments are based on the criteria outlined in Section 33.2-319, including general eligible lane mileage for each roadway that also meets additional minimum situational standards, such as right-of-way width, roadway width, and pavement thickness.
