BODY

_________________________________________________________________

ISSUE:   The Alexandria West Plan (“Plan”) has reached the halfway point in the community planning process; draft recommendations and the draft Plan are scheduled to be released in Spring 2024 to early Summer 2024 for community review.

RECOMMENDATIONThat City Council:

(1)                     Receive an update on the Alexandria West Planning Process (Attachment); and

(2)                     Provide guidance on proposed Plan framework elements and next steps.

BACKGROUND:  The Alexandria West planning process was launched in November 2022. After a robust community listening phase, staff developed and proposed draft concepts for community review at a series of Fall 2023 community meetings, open houses, pop-ups and online activities.

DISCUSSION:  The purpose of the January 23 City Council Update is to share a summary of the community comments and planning process to date as well as to receive City Council feedback on whether the proposed plan framework elements (Land Uses, Design, Building Scale, Housing Strategy, Mobility, and Open Space), concepts that will serve as the foundation of the future Plan, are headed in the right direction.

FISCAL IMPACT:  No impact at this time. As the planning evolves, fiscal impacts will be discussed as part of future updates.
