ISSUE: Consideration and approval of a Resolution to authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement to finalize a bequest from the Demaris Jarroll Williams Revocable Trust to The Lyceum.

RECOMMENDATION: That City Council approve a resolution (attached) authorizing the City Manager to execute an Agreement to finalize the distribution of the bequest from the Demaris Jarroll Williams Revocable Trust to The Lyceum.

BACKGROUND: City Council approved Resolution 2956 in September 2020 authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement to finalize a bequest from the Demaris Jarroll Williams Revocable Trust to The Lyceum. This specific bequest included a Greene Plantation desk, silver snuff box, and wedding band associated with the history of Alexandria. The Trustee is now ready to distribute the Bequest which came to $328,328.39.[EB1]

DISCUSSION: In addition to the artifacts The Lyceum received in September of 2020, the museum is entitled to receive one-half of the proceeds from the sale of silver not distributed to other beneficiaries. The funds will be held in a City created special Lyceum donations account, until such time the funds are dispersed for Lyceum purposes. It is likely that this bequest will fund further object acquisitions, conservation projects, exhibitions, and other special projects to promote Alexandria's history.

FISCAL IMPACT: The appraised value of the bequest is $328,328.39.
