ISSUE: Consideration of a grant application to the National Trust for Historic Preservation for up to $50,000 in funding to support the restoration and interpretation of the Freedom House Museum.

RECOMMENDATION: That City Council:

1) Approve the application to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Telling the Full History Preservation Fund, for up to $50,000; and

2) Authorize the City Manager to execute the necessary documents that may be required.

BACKGROUND: The Office of Historic Alexandria (OHA) seeks up to $50,000 from the National Trust for Historic Preservation through Telling the Full History Preservation Fund grant program. This is a one-time funding opportunity. Grants from this program will be awarded at the $25,000 and $50,000 levels through an open and competitive application process. This program will provide financial support to eligible organizations to preserve and interpret historic places across the nation that illuminate narratives of underrepresented groups of people. Grant funds would support the restoration and interpretation of the Freedom House Museum.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation's Telling the Full History Preservation Fund is made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities' American Rescue Plan Humanities Grantmaking for Organizations.

FISCAL IMPACT: This grant, if awarded, will provide up to $50,000 to the restoration and interpretation of the Freedom House Museum. There is no match requirement for this grant.
