Consideration of a Grant application for Alex Renewal from Alexandria Renew Enterprises to Provide Coordination of Emergency Response Incidents During the Construction of the AlexRenew Tunnel Program.

ISSUE: Consideration and acceptance of grant funding for Alex Renewal from Alexandria Renew Enterprises to fund the coordination of emergency response incidents during the construction of the tunnel through Alexandria Renew Enterprises.
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council:
(1) Authorize the acceptance of grant funds which are part of the AlexRenew Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for $250,000; and
(2) Authorize the City Manager to execute the necessary documents that may be required.
BACKGROUND: The Sanitation Authority, Alexandria Renew Enterprises (AlexRenew), operates and maintains the sewage system for the City of Alexandria. Alex Renew will be constructing a storage tunnel that will require safety emergency rescue procedures. The Alexandria Fire Department has agreed to assist with identifying and supporting incident response protocols during the tunnel's construction. The department has also agreed to provide a project liaison and any necessary training to ensure safety regulations are satisfied. The funds for the grant program will be provided by AlexRenew and Alexandria Fire will be reimbursed $250,000 in personnel and equipment costs.
DISCUSSION: The City of Alexandria Fire Department has entered into a MOU with Alexandria Renew Enterprises.
