Public Hearing and Consideration of Adoption of “All Alexandria: Committing to Race and Social Equity” Resolution. [ROLL-CALL VOTE]

ISSUE:  Proposed race and social equity initiatives of the City of Alexandria.

 

RECOMMENDATIONThat City Council hold a public hearing regarding the attached revised resolution (Attachment 2) “All Alexandria Committing to Race and Social Equity”, and adopt it after the public hearing.

 

DISCUSSION At Council’s January 12 Legislative meeting, Race and Social Equity Officer, Jaqueline Tucker presented the attached community-based resolution to City Council for discussion. The inclusivity of the creation process as well as the key provisions of the resolution were discussed and how the provisions reflect on the City’s past and project a vision for the City’s future is planned. Based upon further community and Councilmember feedback, a few amendments are proposed to the original resolution, and are reflected in the revised resolution (Attachment 2).
