ISSUE City Code 2-4-100 requires that members of the Alexandria Community Criminal Justice Board that are officers of the court that wish to designate a representative member of his or her staff to attend meetings for him or her may only do so if the individual has been approved by City Council.

RECOMMENDATION That City Council approve the attached Resolution to Approve Designees of Members to the Alexandria Community Criminal Justice Board.

DISCUSSION The Alexandria Community Criminal Justice Board (“the board”) is regulated and required by State law.  State law (Virginia Code § 9.2-178) allows officers of the court that are appointed to the board to designate a member of his or her staff approved by the governing body to represent him or her at meetings of the board.  City Council approved the change to the City Code on January 25, 2020 that aligns the City Code with the State Code and allow members of the board flexibility that is provided by the State Code.  The attached resolution approves the designated representatives of members of the board pursuant to City Code 2-4-100.
