Consideration of Appointment of a Police Officer Representative to the City of Alexandria Firefighters and Police Officers Pension Plan Retirement Board.

ISSUE: Appointment of a Police Officer Representative to the Retirement Board ("Board") of the City of Alexandria Firefighters and Police Officers Pension Plan ("Plan").

RECOMMENDATION: That City Council appoint the following individual to the City of Alexandria Firefighters and Police Officers Pension Board:

* Jason North as Police Officer Representative.

Assuming City Council appointment, the effective dates of this term will be May 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020.

DISCUSSION: In accordance with Plan rules, Police Officer Plan participants began the election process to find a candidate to fulfill the vacancy for police officer representative. The representative position was previously held by Mr. Albert Tierney who is retired and has moved out of the local area effective March 31, 2019. The call for nominations resulted in one interested candidate, Mr. Jason North. The Plan's election rules state that an uncontested election does not require a formal secret ballot election and that the single nominee will be recommended to City Council for appointment to the Board.

BACKGROUND: The Board consists of eight members and three alternates who serve as the trustees of the trust and fiduciaries of the Plan and its assets. The Board acts for the City on matters concerning the assets of the Plan, including selecting and monitoring investment funds and appointing investment managers, custodians, and advisors.
