Consideration of a no-cost grant application to the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) - Collaborative Reform Initiative Technical Assistance Center (CRI-TAC) for a Mentorship Program.

ISSUE: Consideration of a non-monetary grant application to the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) with partnership with the Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services for training assistance for a newly developed Mentorship Program.
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council:
(1) Approve the grant application (on-going application process) to the International
Association of Chiefs of Police; and
(2) Authorize the City Manager to execute all the necessary documents that may be
required.
BACKGROUND: The Collaborative Reform Initiative Technical Assistance Center (CRI-TAC), in partnership with the Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) and eight other leading law enforcement agencies, provide customized training and technical assistance to state, local, tribal, territorial, and campus agencies throughout the United States. These services are delivered at no cost to the agency. This grant will provide subject matter experts to assist the Police Department's formal mentoring program with training in both mentorship and officer wellness. This is an on-going program with no application deadlines. APD would like funding in order to use this mentor program to benefit the new graduating class of new police officers. They will be ready to start their training a the department in early February and March.
