MEMORANDUM

DATE:                     DECEMBER 10, 2018

TO:                                          THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL

FROM:                     MARK B. JINKS, CITY MANAGER   /s/

DOCKET TITLE:

TITLE

Consideration of a Resolution to Establish by Resolution the Current Rates Charged at On-Street Meters. [ROLL-CALL VOTE]

BODY

ISSUE:  Consideration of a Resolution to Establish the Rate Charged at On-Street Meters.

RECOMMENDATION That City Council adopt the attached resolution (Attachment) to formally set the existing meter rates by resolution.

BACKGROUND:  An ordinance under a separate docket item is being considered at this meeting to update the City Code provisions governing the Traffic and Parking Board’s roles and responsibilities, as well as other parking matters that often come before the Board, including metered parking.  Currently, the rate charged at on-street meters is listed in the City Code (Section 5-8-93(c)).  If the amendment is approved as proposed, the specific dollar amount would be deleted from the Code and the meter rate would be set by City Council through a resolution.

DISCUSSIONThis resolution formally establishes the existing rate listed in the City Code as required by the new text.  The existing meter rate is $1.75 per hour at all spaces served by multi-space meters or single space meters that accept credit or debit cards, and $1.25 per hour at spaces served by meters that are coin only operated. No changes to these rates are proposed at this time.

FISCAL IMPACT There is no additional fiscal impact of this resolution since it approves the existing meter rates that were previously set in the City Code.
