ISSUE: Consideration of a Grant Application to the 2017 Bark for your Park Grant for funding to rehabilitate the Carlyle Dog Park.
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council:
1. Approve the attached Bark for your Park Grant Authorizing Resolution; and
2. Authorize the City Manager to proceed with the grant application to the 2017 Bark for your Park Grant for $10,000 in park maintenance funding to rehabilitate the Carlyle Dog Park.
BACKGROUND: Pet Safe administers a Bark for your Park non-matching grant program for new and existing dog parks. Local jurisdictions may apply for $25,000 for new dog parks, $10,000 for park maintenance and $5,000 for park equipment in grants. Staff is pursuing the $10,000 for park maintenance grant. The grant would provide increased funding to rehabilitate the Carlyle Dog Park.
DISCUSSION: Due to increased use, the turf conditions at the Carlyle Dog Park remain in poor condition due to soil compaction and poor drainage. The Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities will use the grant award to supplement annual maintenance funding to improve drainage, enhance stormwater management systems and install more durable surface material to mitigate park surface degradation.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total grant request for this project is $10,000. RPCA will contribute an additional $5,000 from the Parks Maintenance Operating Budget for a total project cost of $15,000. No City match is required.
