MEMORANDUM

DATE: APRIL 26, 2017

TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL

FROM: MARK B. JINKS, CITY MANAGER /s/

DOCKET TITLE:
TITLE
Consideration of a Resolution to Adopt Fee Changes to Increase Admission and Facility Rental Fees at Selected Facilities for the Office of Historic Alexandria for FY 2018
BODY
_________________________________________________________________

ISSUE: Resolution to adopt fee changes to increase admission and facility rental fees at selected facilities for the Office of Historic Alexandria for FY 2018.

RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council adopt the attached Resolution (Attachment). The new fees will be effective July 1, 2017.

DISCUSSION: The Office of Historic Alexandria (OHA) operates eight museums and historic sites that provide a variety of public programming and museum services. Several facilities provide space for meetings, private parties, wedding ceremonies and receptions which provide a historic venue available for short-term rental by the public, expose the facility to a larger audience, and provide incidental revenue to the City. Each year OHA reviews its fee schedule to ensure that it is competitive with comparable facilities within the region, affordable to the general public and in line with the operational costs of the department. Based on the results of the review, the Office of Historic Alexandria proposed to increase facility rental fees for wedding ceremonies at the Lloyd house and increase or establish admission fees for museums and educational programs. Fees for the facility rental program at the Lloyd House was last increased in FY 2016 and the museum admission fee have not been increased since it was established in FY 2009.

FISCAL IMPACT: These fee increases will generate approximately $27,850 of additional revenue for FY 2018.
