TITLE

Consideration of the Receipt of the Braddock Metro Neighborhood Plan and Braddock East Master Plan FY 2016 Status of Implementation Report.

ISSUE:    Summary of the 2008 Braddock Metro Neighborhood Plan and Braddock East Master Plan implementation activities from June 2015 to May 2016.

 

RECOMMENDATION:    That City Council receives the attached FY 2016 Status of Implementation Report (Attachment 1).

 

BACKGROUND:    The attached FY 2016 Status of Implementation Report highlights the activities, on the part of the staff, the Braddock Implementation Advisory Group, and the community, to realize the vision of the 2008 Braddock Metro Neighborhood Plan and Braddock East Master Plan. It details the efforts of the past implementation period of June 2015 to May 2016.

 

DISCUSSION: The report details the implementation activities over the last 12 months which includes:

 

                     Completion of concept plan for future Braddock 1-Acre Park

                     Initiation of Fayette Streetscape design and construction

                     Monitoring of Ongoing and Future Development projects

o                     601 N Henry Street - final site plan approved; construction anticipated to begin during the

o                     ARHA RFP 14-02 - development partners selected by ARHA

o                     Braddock Gateway, 1200 N Fayette Street - 1st phase under construction

o                     Ramsey Homes, 600 N Patrick Street - City/ARHA work group developing alternative options, updating Council this summer

o                     USPS Alexandria Post Office, 1100 Wythe Street - City needs to determine and propose USPS relocation site

o                     Carpenter’s Shelter, 930 N Henry Street - MOU signed with AHDC to redevelop the shelter and site

o                     WMATA Braddock Road Metro Station - finalized document for unsolicited proposals for the redevelopment of the site

o                     Parker-Gray Historic District - ongoing update of Design Guidelines

o                     With the opening of Studio Barre on N Fayette, all of the retail space located in new development projects has been leased.

 

                     Implementation Advisory Group

o                     Three Advisory Group Meetings (September 29, 2015; January 28, 2016; April 14, 2016)

o                     BIAG At-Large seat vacancy filled 

o                     BIAG agreed to revise their At-Large vacancy appointment process to follow a more typical City process

 

In FY 2017, implementation activities will continue to focus on development monitoring, completion of streetscape improvements and community engagement.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:    Fiscal impacts are currently related to capital projects approved in the

FY 2017 Capital Improvement Program and staff resources.
