ISSUE: Receipt of the Alexandria Council of Human Service Organizations report, Meeting Needs Today: A Needs Assessment of the Alexandria Human Services System - Volume 2.
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council receive the Alexandria Council of Human Service Organizations report, Meeting Needs Today: A Needs Assessment of the Alexandria Human Services System - Volume 2.
BACKGROUND: The Alexandria Council of Human Services Organizations (ACHSO) commissioned the Peoples Consulting LLC consultants to prepare a comprehensive update to an earlier ACHSO needs assessment report, published in 2008. A copy of the Assessment was also sent to the members of City Council when it was first released earlier this year. This report along with another report, Return on Investment: Alexandria Nonprofit Impact Report, which was published in 2014, is provided to inform and educate the community on the City's human service needs. Like the previous reports, this assessment is an invaluable tool that assists in determining the impact of resources on the continuum of human service needs. It identifies areas of unmet need and opportunities for increased investment, coordination and collaboration in the provision of services by City and non-profit community agencies.
FISCAL IMPACT: None at this time. However, some of the recommendations contained in the report if implemented would have budget implications for the City, as well as for other community and private human service resources.
