Consideration of a Resolution Authorizing The City Of Alexandria To Apply For Federal Funding Assistance From The Land And Water Conservation Fund To Renovate The Passive Use Space And Adjacent Playground In Simpson Stadium Park. [ROLL-CALL VOTE]

ISSUE: City Council approved the grant application to the 2014 Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) on June 11, 2014. At that time staff was unaware of any requirement for an authorizing resolution needed for applying for these funds. This funding will be used to renovate the passive use space and adjacent playground in Simpson Park, per the citywide parks improvement plan. As part of the application, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) requirement that City Council pass the attached resolution, authorizing federal funding assistance.
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council:
1. Adopt the resolution
2. Authorize City manager to execute all necessary documents required for funding
BACKGROUND: The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) administers a grant-in-aid program for the acquisition and/or development of public outdoor recreation areas and facilities. Local jurisdictions may apply for 50% matching fund assistance from the Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). RPCA staff seek approval of the authorizing resolution language for the grant application.
DISCUSSION: In 2014, the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities (RPCA) completed a multi-year process to develop a series of Park Improvement Plans, including Simpson Park.
