ISSUE: Consideration of an agreement between the City of Alexandria and the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of General Services (for the Virginia Employment Commission), to lease 309 square feet of office space for one employee of the Virginia Employment Commission to be collocated in the Alexandria Workforce Development Center located at 4850 Mark Center Drive.

RECOMMENDATION: That City Council:

1. Approve this five (5) year agreement between the City of Alexandria and the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of General Services (for the Virginia Employment Commission) to lease space at 4850 Mark Center Drive; and

2. Authorize the City Manager to execute a lease agreement with the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of General Services (for the Virginia Employment Commission).

BACKGROUND: The City of Alexandria Workforce Development Center (WDC) serves as a Comprehensive One-Stop Center under Title I of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) that brings together job seekers who desire employment and businesses that need reliable employees. The WDC prepares individuals through education and training and refers qualified candidates to prospective businesses.
