ISSUEConsideration of the acceptance of a $70,000 gift from the Mortar and Pestle Society for the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum.

 

RECOMMENDATION:  That City Council:

 

1.                     Accept this monetary gift of $70,000 from the Mortar and Pestle Society; and

 

2.                     Authorize the City Manager to execute all necessary documents that may be required.

 

BACKGROUNDThe Mortar and Pestle Society is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that is the official friends group for the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum. The Society’s support benefits a variety of projects such as object conservation, education programs, and other specific Museum needs.

 

DISCUSSIONThis funding will be used to fund a term-limited Apothecary Archival Processor position for one year. This position is responsible for processing the 18th, 19th, and 20th century archival collection of the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum, consisting of business correspondence, invoices, daybooks and ledgers and creating a comprehensive finding aid for the collection.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:  This gift will provide $70,000 to fund a term limited Apothecary Archival Processor position (GS18/3) for one year. There is no fiscal impact to the City.
