ISSUE:  Consideration of a resolution to authorize the City Manager to accept a donation of a bench at the Charles Houston Recreation Center.

RECOMMENDATION:  That City Council approve the proposed resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement and other documents, if necessary, to finalize donation of a granite bench from The George Washington National Memorial Association.

DISCUSSION:  The George Washington National Memorial Association contacted the Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities (RPCA) with a generous proposal to donate a granite bench dedicated to The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. The George Washington National Memorial Association indicated an interest in locating the bench on site at the exterior of the Charles Houston Recreation Center. The memorial bench will enhance the grounds of the center and provide the community with an opportunity for reflection and remembrance. RPCA staff will install the bench.

FISCAL IMPACT:  None. The bench is valued at approximately $5,000.
