Consideration of a Request To Vacate Two Positions On The Alexandria Marketing Committee.

ISSUE: Request from the Chair of the Alexandria Marketing Committee to vacate two
positions on the Alexandria Marketing Committee (Attachment).
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council declare as vacant two of the positions filled with
individuals who have experience or expertise in marketing/communications and authorize the City Clerk to advertise the vacancies.
DISCUSSION: Section 2-4-7(i)(1) of the City Code requires all board and commission members to attend at least 75 percent of the yearly meetings of the bodies on which they serve, and authorizes City Council to vacate any position if Council determines that a member has missed a sufficient number of meetings such that they 75 percent attendance requirement cannot be met.
The Alexandria Marketing Committee met three times over the last fiscal year. Corry Robb, Chair of the Commission, has requested that Liz Santos and Carol Godwin be removed from the Committee because they have not attended any of the group's meetings. Staff believes that Ms. Godwin has left the area, and efforts to reach Ms. Santos by phone and e-mail have been unsuccessful. Therefore, I recommend that Council vacate these positions and authorize the City Clerk to advertise the vacancies.
