Public Hearing, Second Reading and Final Passage of an ordinance to amend Article A (GENERAL PROVISIONS) of Chapter 4 (COMMITTEES, BOARDS, AND COMMISSIONS) of Title 2 (GENERAL GOVERNMENT) of the Code of the City of Alexandria, Virginia, 1981, as amended. [ROLL-CALL VOTE]

ISSUE: Consideration of the following changes to Code to: (1) remove the waiver for term limits and require members who have reached their 10-year term limit to wait one year before reapplying for the same position; (2) add a stipulation that members who do not return their oath of office to the City Clerk’s Office within 60 days of appointment will be subject to removal from their respective board/commission; and (3) add a mandate for boards/commissions to develop bylaws (if they do not have them) and file the approved bylaws with the City Clerk’s Office.
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council introduce the ordinance and pass the ordinance on first reading and schedule it for public hearing, second reading and final passage on Saturday, May 15, 2021.
DISCUSSION: These suggested Code changes are recommendations from the Boards and Commissions Audit/Review Committee established by Council in March 2019.
FISCAL IMPACT: No fiscal impact at this time.
