ISSUE: Consideration of a resolution to adopt fee changes for the Office of Historic Alexandria for FY 2027 to better align pricing, standardize fees, and cover staffing costs.
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council adopt the attached Resolution (Attachment 1) as part of the FY 2027 budget adoption. The new fees will be effective July 1, 2026.
BACKGROUND: The Office of Historic Alexandria (OHA) charges fees to help offset the cost of operating museums, providing programs, and maintaining historic sites. These fees support staffing, facility use, and educational services, while keeping many offerings free or reduced for City residents, Alexandria City Public Schools, and partner groups.
DISCUSSION: The proposed FY 2027 fee schedule updates aim to better align pricing across sites while covering staffing costs, without significantly increasing overall revenue. Changes include setting clear rates for services like extended museum hours, group tours, school programs, and outreach kits; adjusting some fees up or down to better match actual costs; and standardizing charges such as collection reproductions. City departments, Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), and partner groups may receive reduced or no-cost facility rentals during business hours, with modest fees applied for after-hours use. These changes impact a small portion of the existing fee structure. Admission fees were last adjusted in FY 2018 while rental fees were last adjusted in FY 2025.
