ISSUE:  A resolution to adopt fee changes to increase museum tour and rental fees at Office of Historic Alexandria (OHA) museums.

RECOMMENDATION:  That City Council adopt the attached Resolution (Attachment) as part of the FY 2021 Approved Budget. The new fee(s) will be effective July 1, 2020.

BACKGROUND:  Eight OHA museums are open to the public. Museum tour and rental fees were last increased in FY 2015.

DISCUSSION: The following fee increases are proposed for visitors to OHA museums for

FY 2021.

1.                     Increase rental fees at Friendship Firehouse ($150 to $350 per hour) and Black History Museum ($200 to $250 per hour).

2.   Close Apothecary Museum to public tours during a rental, $250 per hour.

3.   Standardize group tours to have a minimum fee of $50 per group.

4.   Establish a $50 fee for renters to serve alcohol at museum events.

5.   Increase school tour and chaperone prices from $2 to $3.

FISCAL IMPACT:  Increasing museum tour and rental fees will contribute to generating approximately $20,000 in projected additional General Fund revenue in FY 2021.
