BODY

ISSUE: Consideration of a twelve (12) month license agreement between the City of Alexandria and Kahan Dhillon to use a portion of City-owned property located at 912 King Street for outdoor dining.

RECOMMENDATION: That City Council:

(1) Receive this report recommending a license agreement between the City and Kahan Dhillon to use a portion of City-owned property located at 912 King Street for a term of twelve (12) months for outdoor dining; and

(2) Authorize the City Manager to execute the license agreement (attachment).

BACKGROUND: The property located at 912 King Street is a 2,500 square foot, City-owned parcel currently used as four parallel public parking spaces and is a portion of the larger 9,942 square foot, City-owned, public, metered surface parking lot located at 912-920 King Street. The restaurant/caf?, located at 910 King Street and owned by Mr. Kahan Dhillon, is the only restaurant/caf? that is directly adjacent to the City-owned parcel at 912 King Street. Mr. Dhillon has indicated interest in utilizing two of the four parallel parking spaces, or 315 square feet at 912 King Street for outdoor dining.

DISCUSSION: The City-owned parcel at 912 King Street is improved with four asphalt-paved parallel parking spaces which are a portion of the larger 14 parking space, City-owned, public, metered-surface parking lot made up of three City-owned parcels at 912, 916 and 920 King Street.
