MEMORANDUM
DATE: MAY 2, 2023
TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL
THROUGH: JAMES F. PARAJON, CITY MANAGER /s/
FROM: JOANNA C. ANDERSON, CITY ATTORNEY
DAVID E. LANIER, ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY
DOCKET TITLE:
TITLE
Introduction and First Reading. Consideration. Passage on First Reading of an Ordinance to amend and reordain Section 2-4-112 (CREATION, COMPOSITION AND ORGANIZATION) of Article N (ALEXANDRIA COMMISSION ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY) of Chapter 4 (COMMITTEES, BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS) of Title 2 (GENERAL GOVERNMENT) of the Code of the City of Alexandria, Virginia, 1981, as amended.
BODY
_________________________________________________________________
ISSUE: Consideration of an ordinance to amend the qualifications for membership on the Alexandria Commission on Information Technology to align with changes to the name of a representative entity.
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council approve the proposed ordinance (Attachment 2) on first reading on May 9, 2023 and schedule it for public hearing and final passage on May 13, 2023.
DISCUSSION: The Alexandria Commission on Information Technology, pursuant to City Code Section 2-4-112, is comprised of 15 members appointed by city council, including “one student representing T.C. Williams High School, recommended by the faculty.” In 2021, the name of T.C. Williams High School was changed to Alexandria City High School. The proposed ordinance removes the name “T.C. Williams” from City Code Section 2-4-112(b)(7) and amends the section to “one student representing Alexandria City High School, recommended by the faculty”, thus reflecting the school’s current name.
The City Council is empowered, pursuant to Section 3.04(g) of the Alexandria City Charter, to amend this section of the city code governing the composition of the task force.
FISCAL IMPACT: There would be no fiscal impact associated with this ordinance change.
