ISSUE: Consideration of a resolution to extend the terms of the Subcommittee on Boards & Commissions and the Subcommittee for the Review Standing Committees.
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council adopt the resolution (Attachment 1) extending the term of the Subcommittee on Boards & Commissions to December 31, 2025 and the term of the Subcommittee for the Review of Standing Committees to April 30, 2026.
BACKGROUND: At the December 10, 2024 Legislative Session, the City Council created three temporary subcommittees including the Subcommittee for the Review of Standing Committees and the Subcommittee on Boards & Commissions. Three members were appointed to the Subcommittee for the Review of Standing Committees and two were appointed to the Subcommittee on Boards & Commissions during the City Council’s Special Meeting on January 2, 2025.
The Subcommittee for the Review of Standing Committees was charged with reviewing the current City standing committees and determining if the City Council should move to a different standing committee structure and what impact on staffing and current advisory committees a change may have. The Subcommittee on Boards & Commissions was charged with reviewing the process of creating and structuring existing boards and commissions, while making recommendations on the viability and necessity of all active boards and commissions.
The subcommittees have met and reviewed their respective issues throughout the first half of 2025. The members presented their initial findings to the full City Council during the June 24, 2025 Legislative Session and requested additional time to complete their reviews and to allow for additional public input.
FISCAL IMPACT: No fiscal impact currently.
